Nomination of ABA officers for the next year, which begins April 1, 2006
At our February 7 meeting, the Nominating Committee Chair -- Dianna Hopper, of Di's Little Friends Playcare -- will present the slate of officers to be voted on in March. (Additional nominations from the floor will also be taken.) Contact Dianna at 508-881-9893 or dlfplaycare@yahoo.com if you're interested in becoming an officer. These volunteer officer positions, which bring increased exposure for your business or organization, are described below and in the Bylaws. All positions can recruit one or more assistants to help share the responsibilities.

Please also note the proposed changes to the Bylaws including name changes to two Standing Committees (to better describe current activities), and revised descriptions for Secretary and Publicity Coordinator. The proposed changes are shown in bold RED below. These will be discussed at our February meeting, and voted on in March.

Reasons for the proposed wording changes in officer positions: a) The Secretary used to write the monthly newsletter, copy it for members, and send it out, often with enclosures; b) Newsletters are now posted on the Web site rather than mailed, so little or no "assembly" and "distribution" are needed; c) Rediscover Ashland and other new ABA programs have dramatically increased the amount of publicity and advertising required.

CURRENT Bylaws wording about Standing Committees in Article VI., with proposed changes in RED type:
Section B. Three permanent Standing Committees shall be formed:
1. Membership Committee
2. Sidewalk Sale Committee - Rediscover Ashland Committee
3. Ashland Day Committee - Ashland Day ABA Table Committee

Business Card racks -- a FREE opportunity to publicize what you do
It was decided at last month's meeting that it's fine to put your cards in more than one location. The newest rack with lots of open slots is located in Town Hall, around the corner from the Town Clerk. There are still a few open slots for cards in the rack displayed at Chris's Barber Shop and the two racks at Sunnyside Café. An additional rack will be displayed at TD Banknorth (Shaw's Plaza) within the next few weeks.

Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library have many opportunities for businesses to partner with them. Information on a "Games Night" at the library is coming soon. To learn more go to their Web site FriendsoftheAshlandLibrary.com.

Monthly door prizes at ABA meetings
The door prize that will be presented at the February 7 meeting -- dinner for two at Stone's Public House -- is just the beginning. We plan to offer a variety of door prizes in coming months, so please come! (You must be present to win.)
